Expedition Tromsø: four days of adventure in the far north

For four days, we traveled with a group to the far north of Norway. From Tromsø, we headed to the Lyngen Alps, where fjords, snow-capped peaks, and endless vistas set the stage for a few days of adventure. From coastal hikes and a boat trip through the fjords to a trail run through the mountains, culminating in the 50-kilometer Tromsø Mountain Challenge.

Day 1 — Arrival in the far north

We landed in Tromsø on Wednesday afternoon. Two minivans were waiting to pick up the group, and after a quick coffee stop in the city, we left Tromsø behind. Destination: the Lyngen Alps.

The route took us along fjords and mountains, and we crossed the water via the ferry from Breivikeidet to Svensby. From there, it was a short drive to the Lyngen Xperience Lodge, our base for the coming days.

After checking in, it was time to settle in. Some participants sought the warmth of the sauna, while others curled up by the fireplace. Exactly what you need after a day of traveling to the far north.

In the evening, the whole group sat down for our first dinner. Fresh fish from the fjord, hand-picked mushrooms, herbs from the garden, and reindeer meat from the land. Everything as local as possible. Outside, the sky slowly turned orange as the sun dipped behind the mountains. We talked for a long time, but not too long. Tomorrow, the first adventure awaited.

Day 2 — Hiking along the edge of the Lyngen Alps

After breakfast on Thursday, we headed to the northernmost tip of the Lyngen Alps islands. For about seven kilometers, we followed the coast toward Lyngstuva, an old and beautifully restored lighthouse keeper's cottage with a view over the water.

Along the way, there was plenty of time to stop regularly. Not just to catch our breath, but especially to take in the surroundings. The combination of rugged coastline, clear water, and the mountains in the background made it clear why you traveled all the way to the north.

At Lyngstuva, we made our own coffee and tea. Just sitting, looking out over the sea, and having absolutely nothing to do. On the way back, we passed an old shipwreck before driving back to the lodge. A fresh lunch was waiting there, with a hearty fish soup as the perfect end to the morning.

In the afternoon, we swapped our hiking boots for a private boat. We sailed through the fjords and past the surrounding islands, learning more about the landscape and the history of the area.

Sun, blue skies, and barely a cloud on the horizon. In the far north, that is never a given. We were lucky.

Back at the lodge, we enjoyed exactly what you hope for after a day like that: sauna, good food, and another long sunset.

Day 3 — From the mountains to Tromsø

Friday morning, one last adventure in the Lyngen Alps was on the agenda. The true enthusiasts headed out for a trail run toward the impressive Blåisvatnet. For those who preferred to save their legs for the race, there was a more leisurely hike.

We started in the mist. Slowly, it cleared and the sun broke through. The contours of the mountains became increasingly clear, transforming the landscape into a setting that felt almost surreal. One of those mornings where you naturally start walking a bit slower just to take it all in.

After lunch on the road, it was time to leave the Lyngen Alps behind. We got back into the cars, took the ferry back, and drove toward Tromsø.

In the afternoon, we explored the city and prepared for the final and biggest part of the expedition. Pasta was on the menu for dinner. For good reason: the carbohydrate stores needed to be replenished.

Afterward, we picked up our race numbers and attended the runner's briefing. The course was reviewed, the final questions were asked, and the realization slowly began to sink in: tomorrow is race day.

Day 4 — Race day: 50 kilometers through the Arctic landscape

And then the moment arrived.

Team BEAT brought the participants to the start of the Tromsø Mountain Challenge. Fifty kilometers through the Arctic landscape. Over moors, through forests, and across mountain peaks. A distance you don't just run, and one that presents a different challenge for everyone.

From the start, everyone set off on their own adventure. Some were chasing a fast time, while others were simply determined to reach the finish line. Along the way, there was suffering, enjoyment, laughter, and undoubtedly a few moments of wondering: why am I doing this again?

But in the end, most of the participants crossed the finish line feeling satisfied.

There, they toasted to the achievement. This was followed by a hot shower, time to recover, and a final evening in Tromsø.

We concluded the expedition together at Fiskekompaniet, one of the city's most famous seafood restaurants. With good food, stories about the race, and, of course, a few more well-deserved toasts.

Four days earlier, we arrived in Tromsø without knowing exactly what to expect. Four days later, we had sailed through fjords, climbed mountains, covered miles, and completed a 50-kilometer race together.

Mission accomplished.

Expedition up North: sleeping on a glacier while the sun never sets

While the Netherlands was melting in the heat, we set off with a group of 9 for Svalbard. It’s a place that almost falls off the map, being one of the most remote areas on Earth and home to the northernmost airport in the world. Via Oslo, where we picked up our full expedition gear, we boarded a ship that looked like it had sailed straight out of a Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Svalbard is bizarre. We had read about it, but you only truly understand it once you’re there. Endless snow plains, gigantic glaciers, and a sun that simply never sets. We were applying sunscreen in the middle of the night, and by day two, that felt completely normal.

Every day, we headed out in zodiacs for land expeditions, always accompanied by armed security because we were in the home of the polar bears. We skinned through fresh snow, took cold plunges after skiing, and did yoga on the freezing deck of the ship.

The absolute highlight was the night on the glacier. We set out with pulkas (Scandinavian sleds), built our own camp on the ice, cooked our meals, and slept under a sky that was just as blue at night as it was during the day. The next morning, we skied back to our ship to use the sauna. The trip ended with evenings in Longyearbyen and Oslo.

And that was that: Expedition up North with an incredible group. This one will be hard to beat, but we’re going to try again with our next expedition!

Heading into the mountains with the team: ski trip to Chamonix

This winter, BEAT organized a ski trip to Chamonix for a large international private equity firm. As a boutique expedition and sports company, we enjoy thinking practically with organizations: what does a team need, how do you ensure everyone can participate, and how do you turn it into an unforgettable experience together? Trips should be accessible to the entire team, whether you spend full days on the slopes, explore nature on cross-country skis, or head out on a snowshoe hike. This is how we ensure everyone can join in and have a great weekend.

Chamonix, at the foot of Mont Blanc, is known as one of Europe's most iconic mountain destinations and a historic site for mountaineering and winter sports. Here, an international team came together with colleagues from the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, and Germany. It was a great mix of nationalities who usually only speak to each other online, but spent a few days together in the mountains here. Two of our BEAT experts were on-site to guide the program and ensure everything ran smoothly.

During the day, the focus was on the snow. There was plenty of skiing on the slopes around Chamonix, but the whole team also hit the cross-country trails together. For many, this was a new experience, but it proved to be a wonderful way to head into the mountains together and experience the winter landscape from a different perspective.

In addition to the sporting activities, there was plenty of time to eat together, catch up, and simply enjoy the surroundings. In the evenings, we sat down for great dinners featuring local dishes and long tables filled with stories from the day. We naturally wrapped up the days with a bit of après-ski.

For those who wanted to take it a bit easier, there was space to relax in the spa or simply hang out with a coffee or a drink, overlooking the snow-capped peaks around Mont Blanc.

It was another successful trip with a fantastic group! What made this trip strong was the balance: active where possible, relaxed where needed, and above all, spending time together outside the usual office environment. This is exactly the kind of experience we love to build at BEAT.

2025 Trail Running Trip with Karma Dentistry

At BEAT Expeditions, we believe in something very simple: moving outdoors is the absolute best thing for both body and mind. That is why we challenge people every day to get outside, find their own pace, and push their boundaries. This can start small: what your limit is, is personal. But the rule remains: step out of your comfort zone, seek out nature, and discover what you are truly capable of. Believe us, you will immediately feel a lot healthier and stronger… inside and out!

Our trail running trips fit perfectly into this vision: no performance pressure, just adventure, experience, and growth. At the beginning of September, we headed into the Alps with a motivated group from Karma Dentistry. Read on if you want to know what a trip like this looks like!

Before we even set foot on the mountain, the adventure began at home. We had an inspiring session with endurance coach Wouter Dijkshoorn, who guided the team on how to train smartly, manage energy, and above all: how to get the most out of such a challenge with the right mindset. In addition, we organized joint preparation meetings, put together a complete packing list, and held Q&A sessions covering everything from shoes to nutrition. It ensured that everyone started with confidence (and a healthy dose of nerves).

We started the trip in a relaxed way with lunch by the water at Walchsee, a walk through Zell am See, and a dip in the lake to shake off the journey.

The following day consisted of yoga by the lake, a sauna, and lunch at the Edelweissspitze. Then we began our first hike along the Pasterze Glacier, where the trail running shoes could get used to the rugged terrain. In the evening, it was time to relax and eat well. On a trip like this, it is essential to have a good balance of exertion and recovery.

A rainy morning brought us to Mayrhofen, where the tension became palpable: the Ultraks Trailrun was just around the corner. Race numbers were collected, followed by an evening briefing and pasta. No staying up too late, because everyone could feel it… Tomorrow is the big day.

And then: race day. The 50km runners set off at sunrise into a white, snow-covered mountain landscape. An hour later, the 30km runners followed, while Team BEAT was out on the course to cheer them on and help wherever needed. Many hours and quite a few kilometers later, everyone returned to the accommodation. Exhausted, but above all satisfied and proud. With a beer in hand, experiences were shared.

We concluded with a cozy Austrian-style dinner and a final toast to the week. A week in which everyone found their own pace, but in which we also moved together.

New energy in Zeeland

In June, we headed to Zeeland with two teams: a law firm and a consultancy, each with their own dynamics and wishes. One team was looking for depth and relaxation, while the other was after adventure and action.

For both groups, we created a unique programme: from beach games and sunset drinks to an intensive BEAT Challenge centred around teamwork. We cycled through the dunes, dove into Zeeland’s history and finished with a feast, conversations and fresh sea air.

Two weekends where people stepped out of their work environment, got to know each other in a different way and returned to the office with renewed energy. Exactly why we do what we do at BEAT.

Connection in Motion: A Tailor-Made Corporate Event in Cologne

For the annual team outing of a large consultancy firm, we organised a two-day experience full of movement, connection and fun — both in the city and in the nature surrounding Cologne. Together with their internal team, we created a programme that matched the group perfectly, within the available budget.

The group had specific wishes for a programme that would help participants get to know each other better. Upon arrival, we kicked things off with the BEAT Challenge in nature: working together on physical and mental challenges, with plenty of room for fun and teamwork. After a sunny afternoon outdoors, we headed back to the hotel to prepare for an Alpine-themed party — matching outfits included — complete with a live singer and two DJs from within the team.

After a successful evening, part of the group joined the morning sports activities, before we headed into Cologne for the Foxhunt — our own BEAT take on a city game. In small teams, colleagues explored the city on a discovery tour, searching for hidden hints, unusual challenges and, of course, each other.

The weather was on our side — 20 degrees and sunshine — and the atmosphere was just as good. With 30% more registrations than the previous year, it’s safe to say this team outing delivered. Not only because the team had grown, but because everyone felt included — whether they came for the challenge or simply to spend time together.
